The Honor Of Service

Established as a year-round Christian camp and conference center in 1965, Monadnock Ministries operates as a non-profit, religious, and charitable camp open to all.

We are located on 211 acres at the foot of the well traveled Mount Monadnock in Jaffrey, NH.

We have the best volunteers in the world. They are steadfast and faithful. Many of them have been personally impacted by the power of Christ at camp. They come in to joyfully give of what they have to the mission. And we couldn’t operate without them.

Working at MBC, whether paid or volunteer, is about a life of service. Serving is an honor.

Why is serving others an honor?

  1. In John 12:26, Jesus says, “Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.” Our Heavenly Father is pleased when we follow His son and serve His purposes, and places high value on that service.
  2. We learn about receiving and giving mercy. “Blessed are the merciful for they shall receive mercy.” (Matthew 6:7) I cannot stress enough the importance of extending mercy. Serving others places us in position to extend mercy to those who don’t feel like they are worthy. I wrote about the importance mercy in another blog post, “What Happened To Mercy?”
  3. It strengthens your faith. Jesus’s brother James wrote, “faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.” Serving others gives you an opportunity to grow your faith in Christ. Almost every time I have served, I have learned something about myself, others, and more importantly Jesus.
  4. Last but not least…serving has the power to create and/or extend our ability and capacity to love. “If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.” (1 Corinthians 13:3) Serving others doesn’t just flow out of an obligation as a Christ follower. I gain nothing if I am unable to fall more in love with Jesus and those God is calling me to serve. Typically we reserve our unconditional love for family or close friends. Jesus calls us to go further by loving our enemies and caring for the poor, orphans and widows.

Serving brings us, and those we serve, closer into communion with Christ. And a life of service doesn’t just happen at MBC. The opportunity to serve others is constantly around us if we just paused for a moment and looked at so many of the felt needs around us.

If you’re looking for a place to learn what service is all about, we’d love to have you as a volunteer as we serve the needs of churches (Encounter Teen Winter Camps, Rental Groups, etc.), communities (Launch Point After School Program) and families (Men’s Retreats, Women’s Retreats, Family Camp). If you have skills that could help us improve our facilities to better serve our guests, we would love to have you as well.

I hope you would prayerfully consider coming alongside us and be a part of something so much bigger than ourselves as we ask God to reawaken our hearts and His church.

And to all of you who already serve…on behalf of all of our staff….THANK YOU!!!

In His Service
